Automotive Product Defects & Chrysler

Chrysler has changed their stance regarding claims made against Chrysler for defects in Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge Vehicles. According to the New York Times:

When Chrysler went through Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year the court granted an important request to prevent current owners from suing the new company if they were injured by a safety defect in the future. Chrysler’s argument was that it was unfair to burden the new company with suits and the costs resulting from safety defects produced by the old Chrysler.

But Chrysler has had a change of heart. It will accept responsibility if consumers who bought Jeeps, Chryslers or Dodge vehicles prior to its bankruptcy filing are injured by safety defects.

This is an important development in an ongoing effort by consumer advocates, victims, and concerned citizens to hold vehicle manufactures accountable for defects in their automobiles.
