Seguin, Texas Tire/SUV Rollover Accident
An accident around Seguin, Texas has led to the death of a San Antonio resident. The newspaper discusses the possibility that a tire event caused the vehicle to lose control and ultimately roll over. The Ford-Firestone problem of the early 1990’s was particularly dangerous because the defective tires were on a vehicle with a high center of gravity–the Ford Explorer. The Seguin accident involved an SUV. In light of the possibility that a tire event caused the loss of control and subsequent rollover, it is very important that a trained reconstructionist or product defect attorney survey the scene and vehicles soon. According to the Seguin Gazette-Enterprise:
A 62-year-old San Antonio man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a rollover accident on Interstate 10. Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Larry Morawietz said the victim, who was driving with his wife, was believed killed instantly in the accident that caved in the roof of his Ford Expedition. “The deceased was westbound on Interstate 10, lost control, crossed the median and the eastbound side and started flipping,” Morawietz said, nodding at the demolished vehicle. “He was dead right there.” Department of Public Safety Sgt. Jeff Lyde said troopers were investigating to determine what caused the man, who was driving westbound on I-10 about a mile west of Santa Clara Road, to cross over the center strip and the eastbound lanes before rolling over onto an eastbound pickup truck. One possible explanation was that the tread on one of the vehicle’s tires had stripped off, and troopers were working to determine if that was a contributing factor, Lyde said. New Berlin Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kurt Strey said first responders treated the driver of the pickup and a woman who was a passenger in the Expedition at the scene. Both were taken to hospitals in San Antonio. The name of the victim was not released pending notification of his next-of-kin.
