A 71-year-old woman was killed and a 29-year-old woman was injured Sunday morning when their sedan crashed into a jackknifed tractor-trailer in Bulverde.
Rosa Douga died around 6:30 p.m. at University Hospital, where she and the 29-year-old woman were transported after the collision on Highway 46 near Blanco Road.
Lt. Gary Haecker with the Bulverde Police Department said the younger woman, who was driving the car, is in stable condition; her 2-year-old child, who was in the back seat of the Ford Crown Victoria, was not injured. Haecker said he believes the two women were related.
Haecker said the collision took place around 11 a.m., when the driver of the tractor-trailer lost control of it while driving on a curve on Highway 46. The tractor-trailer rolled on top of the car, which was headed west, he said.
The family is said to be from New Braunfels, Haecker said. Authorities do not suspect that alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision, Haecker said, but police are still investigating the collision.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, truck-related highway fatalities totaled 4,229 in 2008. If someone you know was injured or killed as the result of an 18-wheeler accident, big rig accident or tractor-trailer accident, encourage them to immediately contact a competent attorney for advice. It is extremely important to do this quickly to ensure that evidence is preserved, statements are taken, and the rights of all claimants are protected.
